MONTGOMERY COUNTY BULLS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

WEEK 1 (7/9/05) VS: TEXAS SHARKS 

WITH THE GAME TIED 3 TO 3 WITH 10 SEC. LEFT IN THE GAME AND BULLS WERE ON SHARKS 18 AND A BAD FIELD GOAL OPERATION CAUSES BULLS KICKER (JOEY SAAVEDRA) TO MISS TO LEFT BY INCHES, AFTER HE MADE A 47 YARDER EARLIER IN GAME THAT COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN A 55 YARDER. GAME WENT TO OVERTIME AND SHARKS GET A 31 YARD FIELD GOAL TO TAKE THE WIN.

OFFENSIVE MVP: RB; Antwon Reeves - 3 rushing first downs                                                       DEFENSIVE MVP: OLB; James "Blue" Harrison - 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 interception &        LB/TB; Tim Feathers - 2 forced fumbles, and run for 1 first down                                                     SPECIAL TEAMS MVP: K/P; Joey Saavedra - connected on a 47 yard Field Goal, and kicker a 53 yard punt & FS; Andrew Higham - Blocked field goal, and a blocked punt with 10 yard return.

 

         WEEK 2 (7/16/05) VS: AUSTINGAMEBREAKERS  

 THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY BULLS PLAYED THEIR HEARTS OUT, WHILE BEING SHORT HANDED ON PLAYERS.

OFFENSIVE MVP: N/A                                                                                                                     DEFENSIVE MVP: N/A                                                                                                                      SPECIAL TEAMS MVP:  KR/WR; Cornell Swain - had a spectacular 55 yard kick return on the opening kick-off to start the second half. 

WEEK 3 (7/23/05) VS: DALLAS DIESEL

THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY BULLS HELD THE DALLAS DIESEL TO ONLY 27 POINTS. THE M.C. BULLS ONCE AGAIN PLAYED THEIR HEARTS OUT.

OFFENSIVE MVP: QB; Alonzo Humphrey - was outstanding in his debut & WR; Oliver Taylor - who had several dazzling receptions.                                                                                                                DEFENSIVE MVP: LB; Martin Garza - who lead the defense, play after play & OLB; James "Blue" Harrison -who contributed to keeping the Diesel Offense in check all game long                                                                SPECIAL TEAMS MVP: CB; Jason Thomas - blocked an extra point, & caused major problems for the Diesel punt team all night.

         WEEK 4 (7/30/05) VS: Bastrop Bulldogs 

THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY BULLS TRAVELED MUCH BETTER THIS WEEK. FINALLY YOUR M.C. BULLS WERE ABLE TO PUT ALL OF THE PIECES TOGETHER. THEY PLAYED AS ONE COMPLETE UNIT; AS THEY SCORED ON OFFENSE, DEFENSE, AND SPECIAL TEAMS. YOUR M.C. BULLS PLAYED THEIR HEARTS OUT, AND FINALLY FOR THEIR EFFORTS WERE VICTORIOUS.

OFFENSIVE MVP: "THE DRIVE": In the fourth quarter, the offense took over possession of the ball on the 1/2 yard line. Then drove the ball 99 1/2 yards down the field for their first score of the season.                       DEFENSIVE MVP: "THE STAND": Also, in the fourth quarter, the defense not only had to stop the Bastrop potent offense, but also had to over come "5" close calls made by the referees. Each one of the calls, gave the Bastrop Bulldogs a fresh set of downs, including "8" chances to score from the goal line.                SPECIAL TEAMS MVP:  "SWAT TEAM": Every game both the Punt Return & Field Goal Block units, have been instrumental in controlling the scoreboard & field position. Every time they lineup, the are bringing the house. In an all out effort to block the kick, whether it is a Field Goal Attempt or a Punt by the opposition.

         WEEK 6 (8/13/05) VS: Texas Sharks      

THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY BULLS WERE WELL RESTED. AFTER SCARING THE TEAM FROM LUBBOCK, WHO CHOSE TO FORFEIT. YOUR M.C. BULLS WERE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO KEEP IT ALL TOGETHER, AND AGAIN PLAY AS ONE COMPLETE UNIT; AS THEY HAVE NOW FORMED INTO A POWERFUL TEAM. YOUR M.C. BULLS WERE DOWN EARLY, BY A SCORE OF 13 - 0. BUT THAT ALL CHANGED, THE FIRST TIME BEN GAY WAS HANDED THE BALL, AS HE RAN FOR AN "ESPN HIGHLIGHT" 75 YARD TOUCHDOWN. THEN QUARTERBACK ALONZO HUMPHREY, CONNECTED WITH J.R. ROBERTS, FOR HIS FIRST RECEPTION OF THE SEASON, ON A SPECTACULAR 52 YARD TOUCHDOWN CATCH, OVER FORMER M.C. BULL TEAMMATE DRE ROBINSON. OUR FINAL SCORE CAN FROM A DEFENSIVE INTERCEPTION. WHICH COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN 7 POINTS FOR THE SHARKS, ENDED UP BEING 7 POINTS FOR US. BECAUSE HE INTERCEPTED THE BALL IN THE BACK OF THE END ZONE, HE RAN 110 YARDS, WHILE BREAKING THROUGH 2 DIFFERENT TACKLES, AND DOVE FOR THE END ZONE FOR THE SCORE. YOUR MONTGOMERY COUNTY BULLS RAISED THE LEVEL OF EXPECTATION AND EXPECT TO WIN EVERY TIME THEY STEP ON THE FIELD.

OFFENSIVE MVP: "THE FIRST TIMERS": RB; Ben Gay - was handed the ball for the "FIRST TIME", and he ran for an "ESPN HIGHLIGHT" 75 yard touchdown! & WR; J.R. Roberts - who for the "FIRST TIME" had his first reception of the season, on a spectacular 52 yard touchdown catch, over former M.C. Bulls teammate Dre Robinson. & QB; Alonzo Humphrey - made several key reads, and constantly kept the offense moving the chains.                                                                                                                                 DEFENSIVE MVP: "THE GLOVE": DB; Derrick Washington - had 2 interceptions, which one began in the end zone, and was taken 110 yards while breaking through 2 different tackles for a touchdown. &  The Goal Line Defense - they have been tested time and time again. And once again with two seconds left. They were relentless and the opposition could not penetrate for the score.                                                       SPECIAL TEAMS MVP:  "SWAT TEAM": Once again, the Punt Return unit, was instrumental in controlling the field position. Every time this special group of guys lineup, the are bringing the house, in an all out effort to block the Punt by the opposition.  

        WEEK 7 (8/20/05) VS: Austin Game Beakers  

AFTER DEFEATING THE CROSS-TOWN RIVAL, TEXAS SHARKS, THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY BULLS WERE CHARGED AND READY FOR PAYBACK ON THE AUSTIN GAMEBREAKERS. YOUR M.C. BULLS MADE SURE THE GAMEBREAKERS WOULD NEVER FORGET THE NIGHT THEY PLAYED THE BULLS!!! THE GAMEBREAKERS DROVE HOME EXTREMELY THANKFUL THEY WERE VICTORIOUS, AND WITH THE MEMORY IN THE BACK OF THEIR MINDS OF WHAT THEY HAVE TO FACE FOR THE YEARS TO COME..

OFFENSIVE MVP: QB; Alonzo Humphrey - was made great making several key reads, and constantly kept the offense moving the chains, before getting a little banged up. & WR; Oliver Taylor - who was fouled all night and had great touchdown reception to take the lead. & WR/QB; J.R. Roberts - who again for the "FIRST TIME" was under center at the QB position.                                                                                           DEFENSIVE MVP: FS; Andrew Highman - had 2 interceptions, keeping the opposition out of the end zone on two separate occasions. &  The Entire Defense - as they displayed heart, and relentless courage throughout the entire overtime.                                                                                                                    SPECIAL TEAMS MVP:  DE; Danny Nephew - blocked a field goal attempt, & caused major problems for the Gamebreakers offensive unit all night. & CB; Jason Thomas - who recovered the ball twice on the night, first on a kick-off and the other on a punt. Which gave the offense the ball in great field position.

         WEEK 8 (8/27/05) VS: DALLAS DIESEL     

THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY BULLS PLAYED THEIR HEARTS OUT, WHILE BEING SHORT HANDED ON PLAYERS.

OFFENSIVE MVP: QB; Troy Dickey - Led the offense into scoring position on several key drives.                   DEFENSIVE MVP: DB; Robert Lee - broke through the line and made the opposing QB run for his life, almost recording a sack                                                                                                                        SPECIAL TEAMS MVP: K/P; Joey Saavedra - connected on a 50 yard Field Goal, and kicked a 70 yard punt that went out of bounds on the 3 yard line.

         WEEK 9 (9/10/05) VS: BASTROP BULL DAWGS           

THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY BULLS PLAYED A CHARITY GAME FOR THE AMERICAN RED CROSS, IN WHICH 100% OF THE PROFITS WENT TO THE AMERICAN RED CROSS TO AIDE THOSE THAT WERE AFFECTED BY HURRICANE KATRINA.  

OFFENSIVE MVP: QB; Alonzo Humphrey - took charge and led the offense, down field all night                       DEFENSIVE MVP: DB; Gerald Dickerson - had two interceptions and one returned for a touchdown. He had several key pass breakups on the night.                                                                                                SPECIAL TEAMS MVP: DE; Danny Nephew - was on target with both deep & short snaps, with good accuracy and velocity. & FS; Abe Elmore - was excellent on all of his holds during extra points, after taking on the Holding duties at a minutes notice.
